Book Blitz + Giveaway: Romancing the R.A. by Ashelyn Drake

Romancing the R.A. (Campus Romance #1)
Release Date: 28th May 2013

Summary from Goodreads:
Noelle Buckman is looking forward to making a fresh start in college, one that doesn’t involve immature high school boys. The second she steps on campus for freshman orientation, she can sense the possibilities. Especially when she spots Andy, a resident advisor who’s not just hot but also thoughtful enough to open doors for a girl.
And Andy has his eye on Noelle. Even when her nerves take control and she thinks she comes off as a hillbilly with no direction, Andy can see what she’s really like and he’s more than a little interested.
But orientation is less than two full days and there’s an entire summer between Noelle and Andy. Will her attempt to romance the R.A. be as short-lived as college orientation?

***EXCERPT***

He’s stunned at first and doesn’t move. I start to pull away, thinking I’ve made a huge mistake, but then I feel Andy’s hand on my lower back, pulling me closer. His lips part, and he deepens the kiss.

Every inch of me is on fire. Andy’s an incredible kisser, but the position we’re in is awkward. I reach my hands up and bury my fingers in his hair, which prompts him to lift me onto his lap. Much better. Our bodies are pressed so close I can feel every inch of him. My lungs are screaming for air, but I’m not willing to give in to them. I’ve been dying to kiss Andy ever since he first smiled at me, and I’ll be damned if I’m
backing away that quickly.

His hands move up my back to my hair, and he pulls my head back gently exposing my neck. His lips trail down my jaw and to the nape of my neck. I bite my lip to stifle a moan, but it manages to slip out anyway. Andy slowly eases off, opening his eyes to see my reaction. I debate pulling his lips back to mine, but for the moment I drape my arms around his shoulders and just stare into his baby blue eyes.

“Wow.”

He can say that again. “Yeah.”

“I can honestly say that’s the first time I didn’t have to make the first move.”

“And it’s the first time I ever made the first move.”

He smiles. “Then I’m honored.” He leans forward and places a single kiss on my neck. His hips rise under me, and I know exactly where he’s hoping this is going to lead. My body is screaming for his touch, but I don’t want to be that girl. The one who goes off to college and sleeps with the first guy she meets.
As much as I want Andy, I can’t do this right now.

Book Review: The Originals by Cat Patrick

Title: The Originals
Author: Cat Patrick
Genre: Young Adult, Science Fiction, Contemporary
Release Date: 7th May 2013
Ratings:  (4.5 stars)
Book Blurb from Goodreads:
Ella, Betsey and I look like sisters: triplets, you might think.
But that's not what we are at all.
We are clones in hiding. We split out lives and exist as one person in the outside world. And we've always been happy.
But now I've fallen in love ... and that changes everything.
Because to let love in, I need to be allowed to be Me.
REVIEW:
First of all, thank you to my fellow Pinoy, Dianne of Oops I Read A Book Again and Pinoy Book Tours for doing this book tour. I love your concept guys. For touring a real physical books all around Philippines, even if it's just one copy per book, it's so nice to have it that way.

Honestly? I forgot all about the blurb when I got the book. So it's like starting it without any knowledge about the book. I know, I could've look at the back of the book. But I didn't until I was at least 5 chapters in. I was... amazed by the premise. It's new to the eyes. Well, my eyes. It's something I don't really think it'll happen. Or I didn't think one would create a world like that.

I'm actually still wondering if this book is a dystopian book or a contemporary one. I guess it IS a contemporary novel with bits of Science Fiction and not dystopia since there's no Apocalyptic things happening in this book. Hmm.. So okay, I think we all thought of having clones right? Like you, I wished I got clones so I could divide myself. I actually want the Naruto kind of clones. :P Where I could get the knowledge of what my clone/s did after going back to my body. I want my clones to read all the books I've been meaning to read or watch the TV series I've been waiting for a long time or maybe sleep more or do my work for me. You know, all those things. Yes, I'm that lazy. LOL.

But in here, Lizzie, Betsey and Ella are all clones. And no, they're not the Naruto kind. They're the kind where they've been researched thoroughly first and then experimented on human cloning. We all know that scientists are really trying to clone a human or I mean, the animals first before human. Anyway, Lizzie is the one who's talking in the book. I love that those three got their own personalities. That they still have their own minds, characters even if they are living as one.

I like how Patrick still gave the other clones, Betsey and Ella, their own personalities and that over the course of the book, they started to stand up on their own. Actually, this book is more of a contemporary one. Since Lizzie fell in love, they were presented a situation that is a bit chaotic for their lifestyle since they are living as one person and not as triplets. I get it, I mean of course it's weird if you suddenly dated a person you don't like or that the person you like dated the others because the date time falls in their time. Their arrangement is strange but at the same time they did made it work before Lizzie met Sean Kelly.

I like how it was done. The mysteriousness of the whole thing. The protectiveness of their mom. The lies. How they arrived at the truth. The closeness between the three clones. The support of Sean to Lizzie. What I didn't like was... maybe the way Lizzie felt to her mom after all of those things happened to them. I do get her for her reasons to feel that way... But I don't believe that's enough... Or is it just me? Oh well.

Well, that's how it is. I love Cat Patrick's work on this one. Love the premise and characters. It's my first book of hers. And I think I'll be reading more of hers. :)

Book Review: Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Obsession
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Genre: Adult, Paranormal Romance, Science Fiction
Release Date: 31st May 2013

Book Blurb from Goodreads:
He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.
Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.
Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.
Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?

REVIEW:

I've been putting off this review for so long. And good memory is not (most DEFINITELY) my strongest suit in case of reading or in life, generally. Although I remember the STRANGE and RANDOM stuffs. :P In any case, enough babbling about things not associated in this book.

Hmmm... When I first picked up Obsidian, Lux Series. I'm really not particularly fond of reading Alien kind of books. Since as I have mentioned in my review of Obsidian back then, when I think of Aliens, I thought of those gruesome movies I've seen. But after reading Obsidian, after falling for Daemon in Onyx, I know... I know that I'm liking the series.

So when I saw that there's a spin-off... And that it's about an Arum, the counterpart of Luxens... I don't know what to think about. My friends said that it is an Adult novel because it was published by Entangled Publishing, which I think we all know they mostly publish Adult/Erotic books. So that being said, it's really not my alley since I mostly read Young Adult or New Adult. Not that I stay away from Adult books, I do read those, it's just I'm a bit picky about it...
Who else are better to protect her against a Luxen than an Arum?
BUT, when I started reading it, I am intrigued by Hunter, the Arum. I know that since this is a book about an Arum (they are well, evil, murderers), I know that Hunter will redeem himself by the end of the book. That's how it was always written. Bad boys turning into one of the good guys because they fall in love.

What I liked about Hunter was that he proved that he'll be worth it. That even if he was bad, there's some goodness in him. I like how he is not really one of the bad guys. He just got his own way of dealing things.
“Hunter's stomach was perfection—each taut muscle tight and totally lickable. Not that I'd ever licked a man's stomach before, but now I got why someone would want to. I was in six-pack heaven.”
Serena, was someone that has... strong personality? Or should I say she's hard-headed. lol. Well, she's a bit annoying, but I guess when did I ever not get annoyed by female characters of Armentrout? *cough* Katy *cough* Well I like how she accepted Hunter for who he really was.

In any case, this book is awesome. The plot is really interesting, gripping and makes you want more. Especially all those HOT make out scenes, love scene and the... foreplay scene? LMAO. Well, I know that you, Lux and Arum fans alike all read it by now, so I'm not really spoiling it, am I? It's BOUND TO HAVE THOSE ANYWAY. It's ENTANGLED PUBLISHING we're talking about! :P

Love the book!! More please! And gosh, I loved that Daemon showed up just a bit! :)

Book Review: If I Should Die by Amy Plum

Title: If I Should Die (Revenants #3)
Author: Amy Plum
Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal Romance
Release Date: 7th May 2013
Ratings:
Book Blurb from Goodreads:
I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.
Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France’s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.
It shouldn’t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he’s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.
After what we’ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying—to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others—so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?

REVIEW:

Pretty pretty cover! :) Just noticed it now. And it'll be released on May 2013?! Aw, man. Last book! Can't wait for this one. Wonder what would happen to Vincent. Since in the second book, it was such a cliffhanger...

Hmmm... If I Should Die is the last book of the trilogy Revenants by Amy Plum. Story was about revenants. Revenants are prettified zombies. Er... The summary is like this, they die to help/save others and then resurrect after a couple of days as long as their bodies are not burned. And of course, there's the Numas. They are the complete opposite of Revenants or the Bardias, they kill people. They murder them in cold blood.

So then the story in this third book, continued without much of a preamble from the ending of second book. I think it was just days after Vincent was taken by Violet. The Bardias and Numas believed that Vincent is the Champion. The one who'll save them from Numas.

And Kate, I honestly didn't expect anything from her. I don't expect that she'll be able to save Vincent which leads to me asking for a spoiler about whether Vincent will be back for good in the middle of the book.

The story is good. But a bit boring at some parts. If I will be asked if I enjoyed reading it the answer would be so-so? lol. I mean I still liked it but I do wished that some parts are not that long. Ending's pretty good. Didn't expect some of the twists. Kate's character evolved, I believe. But as usual, the guy is like "Don't do this or that. I don't want you getting hurt." The usual drama of guys who are a bit overprotective. In Vincent's case, I quite understand why he felt that way.

Overall, yeah, story's great. But I feel there's something that is lacking. So 3 stars only. And yes, I'm satisfied with the ending.

***EXCERPT***

The bus ride to the quarantine facility took more than ten hours. I was shoved against the window by my seatmate who slept almost the entire trip. He was a big guy, taking up most of the seat, and when he slept his body lolled to the side, wedging me against the metal side of the bus.

As we traveled, the air turned hot and dry, different than the humid, sticky climate of my coastal Texas hometown. The old school bus didn’t have air conditioning and the small windows didn’t let much air in. My seatmate’s body heat didn’t help. I was hot, thirsty, and had to pee in the worst way.

Wondering how much longer I’d be drooled on by the guy next to me, I strained my face against the window, looking for anything on the flat landscape.

That’s when I saw them.

I don’t know why I was surprised. I should’ve expected it after what had happened at the high school, but I hadn’t. It was worse than at the school—rioters everywhere. They waved anti-raffle signs and signs cursing the “Chosen.”

The land around the quarantine area was flat, dry, and dusty. The people lining the road sat under makeshift tents to keep out of the sun. Some stood on top of their RVs waving their handmade signs; one burned an American flag.

I watched women holding their small children toward the bus, begging with tear-stained faces for us to take them. I wanted to reach out and snatch them out of their mothers’ hands as we drove past. Several of the other people on the bus reached up and pushed their windows shut.

The National Guard at the quarantine site didn’t allow  people to get close enough to touch the bus. They were shot with rubber bullets or Tasered if they tried to cross the police line. Every time I heard the shot of the riot guns I jumped.

My muscles ached from tensing them—waiting for the inevitable sound.

“Why are you crying?” A boy sitting in front of me looked at me like I’d grown another head. “They’d probably kill you and steal your place in the PODs if given the chance.”

I shook my head, remembering what my dad had told me. “They’re just scared,” I said. After all, they were, essentially, the walking dead.

The rioters screamed and cursed us. They threw rocks and eggs as we drove by. An egg hit the window next to me, the slimy insides plopping against my head, matting my hair.

“Gross,” the boy sitting next to me said.

I just looked at him and rolled my eyes.

Yeah, the egg is gross. And the drool coming out of your mouth and dripping on my leg while you slept, leaning on me, was glorious.

The bus stopped in a fenced area like the one at the high school. The crowd screamed and banged the fence posts with their crude, homemade picket signs. Some climbed on the fence, pulling at it like chimpanzees at the zoo.

“Stay seated until your name is called,” a soldier yelled. “When you are called, grab your belongings and wait to be escorted into the building.”

Oh please, call this guy’s name. He needs to move before I shove him off the seat. I’m tired of being pinned against the side of the bus. I need some room.

Thankfully, my name was called soon after we stopped. I stood, stretched the kinks out of my muscles, and plowed through the massive body blocking me. Clambering over the other luggage that filled the aisle, I grabbed my two suitcases and stood in front of the bus.

The one-story brick building was large but had no windows, only a single green door. I couldn’t see the other sides, but I had a feeling there’d be no windows there, either—no glass for rioters to break through.

The soldier walked up from behind me, tapping my suitcase with his clipboard. “Follow me.”

I shuffled into the brick building, guided by the same guardsman who’d ripped me away from my parents hours earlier…

“I love you,” my mom said through her tears, her voice thick and trembling.
“I want to stay with you,” I pleaded.
“Come here, kiddo.” My dad, his face distorted with grief, folded me in a tight hug. He kissed the top of my head and told me he loved me and how proud he was of me.

“I know, when this is over, you are going to do great things, Eva. you’re a fighter. I love you so much.”

A rough hand grabbed my arm, pulling me away from my dad. “Get on the bus,” the male voice ordered, yelling to be heard over the crying of parents and children saying their final goodbyes.

“I’m not done saying goodbye…” He didn’t let go, pulling me with him. My heels digging into the dirt, I tried to pull away. I needed one more hug, to hear them tell me they loved me and to tell them I loved them, too.

“MOM!” I screamed. “DAD!” Tears stained my face. The man thrust me toward the steps of the old, yellow school bus. I screamed one more time for my parents, telling them I loved them, reaching my arms out to them.

I could see my mom’s body rock with the force of her cries. Tears ran down my father’s face.
“We love you, Evangelina,” I heard them call just before the bus door closed.

It was the last thing I’d hear my parents say. It was the last image I’d have of them. I pressed my and to the window of the bus, my head bowed as I sobbed. I didn’t try to hide my tears. Everyone on the us was crying for their families. We knew what awaited them.

Death.

I shook my head, trying to erase the horrible memory. I wanted to remember the good things about them, not saying goodbye. Goodbyes are hard, but this one had been different. This wasn’t a goodbye, I’ll see you in a month. It was a permanent goodbye. I’d never see my parents again. The overwhelming sadness took over, like a black hole sucking me in. Fat, salty tears ran down my face, and I could feel my nose running. I wiped my arm across it. My eyes were swollen, my throat sore, and my chest tight.

I was alone. My parents were gone. No brothers or sisters. Just me—an orphan of the virus.

***Advanced Praise For PODs***

“…an energetic, tumultuous roller coaster ride that me on the edge of my seat and biting my nails…You know when Goodreads says “Meet You Next Favourite Book?” Well this is it! This is my favourite book of 2013…In my honest opinion Michelle Pickett is best-selling author material…overflowing with talent…It doesn’t feel like a debut book; her writing speaks of someone who has been writing and publishing books for years.”  ~ Keren of Gothic Angel Book Reviews

“It is very rare these days for a YA book to suck me in so thoroughly that I lose all concept of time and place, I’m just too busy for that.  But PODs did exactly that.  I was pulled right into Eva’s world and stayed there until the end… All in all, I give it my rare 5 out of 5 stars with a warning: Do not pick this book up unless you’ve cleared your schedule for several hours!”  ~ DJ of The Curvy Writer Blog

glowing, sparkling stars for this one!...I absolutely adored every character Michelle introduces us to. This book isn't just about a romance, or two people fighting some battle. This book allows us to get to know several, amazing, diverse characters who all grab your heart (even a few who have attitude issues). They all held such an important place in the story… Now for the plot. Holy crap!... Michelle did a flippin' fantastic job giving us each piece of this puzzle… I won't go into details about what happens after they are removed from the POD but O-M-G! The action never stops…This book seriously needs to be a movie. I could picture every detail and already see it playing out on screen. PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!”  ~ Jessica of Total Bookaholic

*ABOUT THE AUTHOR*

I'm a wife, mother, author, reader, although not always in that order.  I write young adult urban fantasies, science/fiction and paranormal romances and have recently started dabbling in young adult contemporary romance. Reading was one of my earliest passions, writing soon followed. I began writing seriously during college where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in accounting. Why I chose a career that frowns on creativity remains a mystery.

I’m addicted to Reese’s peanut butter cups and eat way too many while I write, have an abnormal obsession with hoodies and can’t write without one, and I hate to cook, but love to watch cooking shows on television. An unabashed romantic, I love a swoon-worthy ending that will give me butterflies for days.

I wrote my debut young adult novel, PODs, in 2011. PODsa science/fiction, post-apocalyptic romance, will be released June 4, 2013 through the amazing Spencer Hill Press.  My second young adult title, Milaynaa paranormal romance, will release through Spencer Hill Press beginning in March 2014.

Milayna is a standalone, with series potential. It’s meant to be a trilogy. The Infected, a PODs novel, will release November 2014. It is the second, and last, book in the PODs series.
