Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014!!!

HAPPY NEW YEEEEEEAAAARRRRRRR!!!!

I know. I am early greeting everyone a happy new year. But better early than late. :P This year is such a good year to me. I have so many things I am thankful for. So many things happened this year that I must say were a challenge for me. I got almost everything I've ever wanted in life, well except my dream car, Porsche, a house and lot and MILLIONS of DOLLARS. Yes, DOLLARS, though I'm a Filipino and our currency is PESOS. Lol.

ARC Challenge: WEEK 7

Together with +Deniz of Closet Geeks and Slow Mo, we decided to do an ARC Reading Challenge. It's simple. Just go and read your pending ARCs from NetGalley, Edelweiss, authors or publishers. Read at least one or how many you like, review and post them and of course, link them here! :)

This is the LAST WEEK!!!! As Deniz mentioned, was thinking of doing this again next year. BUT I found lots of Reading Challenge for year 2014. :P Look here to see my post. For this last week, I have read TWO ARCS. :)

Don't have a review for those two arcs I read yet. Since The Almost Girl is on Blog Tour for January 4, 2014. And The Hunted One.. Well, I just finished it. Like literally minutes ago. :P

2014 Challenges!!!

I've been looking for 2014 Challenges again today. I have found Rachel of Fiktshun's 2014 Review Pile Reading Challenge. I joined there in hope of diminishing my TBR pile. Soooooo... I found three... YES, THREE new Reading Challenge for the year 2014. And I am now tagging 2014 as "The Year of Reading Challenges for us ARC hoarders". Sounds like a mouthful but whatever. I'm actually doing this for the ARCs I got. LOL.

So here are the challenges I found today! :)

2014 Series Challenge by Read. Sleep. Repeat.
For this 2014 Series Challenge... I'm doing a 1-3 series. I'll try. I'll upgrade to the other levels if I am done with the first 3 series I planned.
  • Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi - I plan to read the second and third book this 2014. :)
  • Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta - my GR/online friends are bugging me to read it for almost a year now. I have not yet started it and I now have the reason to! :)
  • (still thinking what will I put here)
2014 NetGalley Reading Challenge by Ariel Avalon
2014 NetGalley Reading Challenge - I plan to do at least 10 for now. I'll up this one soon cause I got lots of NG ARCs more than my fingers and toes could count. :P

2014 NetGalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge by Falling For YA.
2014 NetGalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge - basically it's just the same with the one above, just added the Edelweiss. ;) And I'll be doing 10 for this too. Since I don't wanna cheat unless I am desperate, this one is solely for my Edelweiss ARCs. But yes, I think my NG ARCs could also fall into this... Again, unless I'm desperate. LOL. :P

I love joining these reading challenges. Especially if I got friends who could do it with me too. Thank you +Deniz Yildiz and +Ornella Russo for joining the reading challenges this coming new year! Love you guys!!! Hope we could up our rating in both NG and Edelweiss and leave a dent in our TBR Pile this coming 2014! :)

EDIT: Adding the 2014 Don't Let It End Reading Challenge post. ;)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

I'm on a short hiatus! But I just want to greet you all a very Happy Christmas!!!!

I have received a lot of gifts already and yes, I did opened them too. :P I'm one impatient girl. Can't handle not opening gifts even if it is not mine. LOL. We did secret santa with my family within the office and one within my team. ;) I got the things I wished for.

But a dark vision haunts Jim’s dreams – a Crimson Storm with the face of a black skull. Soon, Jim is thrust into a deadly race against his father’s old enemies, Count Cromier and his son, Bartholomew. This time, he will face terrors beyond his imagination – pirate battles, hidden islands, sorcerers, and sea monsters.
New foes and magic forces will tempt and test Jim. For there are terrible secrets he has yet to learn, secrets about his father, the Treasure of the Ocean, and his own incredible destiny…
Adventure has a new name – Jim Morgan!
I’ve met a great many authors over the years who have told me writing villains are far more enjoyable than writing heroes. I agree completely! The inner rebel of every author loves to inhabit the skin of a good villain, one who leaves nothing off the table, no rule unbroken, and no depth left unsunk – it can be a thrilling experience. Heroes, on the other hand, must be at least a bit more restrained, possessing of a code, and holding the moral high ground. Because of this, there are many times when heroes come across as well…a little boring. When I wrote the Jim Morgan novels, I wanted to write a hero that at least bent that mold, if not broke it completely.

REVIEW
*Thank you for the review copy YA Bound Book Tours!*

For now, I'll talk about this book based on the 30% or so I have read. Let me first explain as to why I'm not yet done with it... I didn't expect it to be this long. And I thought I could do finish it in two days but well, I have not. I started on Monday but I'm still not done. Add the workload I got for the past days. I do work and I didn't just expect the Ricochet novella to be long too. :o I thought it'll be less 150 pages. But it neared to 300. Anyway. Long story short, I think I'll be done with it by tomorrow or early Friday.

I can't say that I love the story. I mean, it's not bad. Ugh. I can't seem to phrase it correctly. Okay.. Let's try again... The way it was written is so good that I had an epiphany that THIS is how an addict are. THIS IS ADDICTION. It is NOT easily removed into your system, especially if you did it for years.

I liked that they TRY their damnest to battle their own addiction. I know it is hard but they just have to keep on trying. I love how supportive their friends are. I love Rose and Connor, two power couple. I enjoyed reading their intellectual battles. I feel like Lily whenever she looks at those two couple. :P I am rooting for them too!

Now, I'm off to read some more! Will do a full review soon!!! Thank you!

EDIT (12.22.13):

I loved this book. It makes me smile, laugh, smirk, angry and bawled like a baby. This was written beautifully. All the right words was said without making it cliché. I do believe that this is how addicts act. I love that it is real. Lily and Lo struggled to get past their addiction. It is most especially hard for Lily. I get them. And I love them for trying their best to do the right thing. Also, I liked the way the authors made their characters. Lily and Lo are growing to be good persons.

You know, I do not think that Jonathan Hale is that bad, actually. I know what Ryke says about him but thinking about it, I do think, like Lo, Jonathan Hale loves him in his own f**ked up way. It might not be right but that was the only way Jonathan knows how to show it. So yes, I don't see him as a big bad monster, really. Cause at the end of the day, if Lo really needs him, he'll be there. Well except in dealing the alcoholic thingy.

I am so looking forward to reading Rose and Connor's story. :) Those power couple is really something. Loved Rose! :)

Definitely a MUST READ book. :)

My tale has been told again and again, and I’ve heard each one. Except for my hair, I barely recognize the pitiful renditions. Muddled versions, crafted to entertain laughing children…but the children wouldn’t have laughed if they’d known the real story. It wasn't their fault. They didn't know the truth. Nobody did. My name is Rapunzel. I will tell you my story. I will tell you the truth.
TEASER
Just go, Henry. Save yourself. I tried to shout, but my mouth wouldn't give way to sound. I was paralyzed. Was it with fear, or something else? The cackling witch at the tree line convinced me it was her doing.
I heard Henry continue to shout for me to flee, but I didn't respond. I didn't move. I didn't run. I was frozen like a lifeless statue in a cold museum. With only the movement of my eyes, I pleaded with him to help me. A tear escaped one of my eyes then rolled down my cheek. That single tear managed to do what my heart and body could not. Escape.
Fear, like unseen hands, gripped my lungs and tried to crush them slowly. My stomach churned and threatened to empty. Would we die here?
The gentle chill of night had turned into a mid-winter's frost. Tiny bumps rose on my arms and the small hairs prickled to attention. I opened my mouth to speak, but the words remained trapped in my throat.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Born and raised in Aurora, Illinois I spent my childhood climbing trees and playing street games with the neighborhood kids. I was a proud tomboy, until the day I didn’t want to hike the land to an old graveyard. From that point forward I was considered a “girl”.
At the age of seventeen I moved to Kentucky and eventually began to raise a family of my own. Having worn several “hats” my life has been an adventure all on its own. Still, to this day, I yearns to be a mechanic and own a pink toolbox with pink tools.
I can usually be found updating my website, reading great books, watching awesome movies or creating videos for my YouTube channel. Most days I craves Diet Coke, pizza and chocolate, in no particular order.
I don’t read scary books or watch horror movies… I’m way too scared! Lol.

A storm is brewing on the streets of LA, one that has intensified since a tragic and deadly confrontation claimed an innocent life.

*Thank you for the ARC copy NetGalley and YA Bound! :)*

This is a huge step up for me. I rated the first one 3 stars but for this I gave it a 4 stars. I quite liked it. It makes me feel on edge. Wanting to know what will happen next, I need to keep on reading it. I need to understand why they did what they did.

I started to like the multiple POV. I got glimpse of each main characters. I see Oliver Blue, Calia, Gabe, Rayne, Lucas, Rafe and Kendra. They each got their own baggage. We know that being an Indigo kid, they faced hardship, from their own parents and from the Church who doesn't stop hunting them. I was introduced to that hardship they have experienced.

The story actually continue where it left off. Maybe some weeks after or so. Gabe was training the Indigo kids for the soon-to-be battle with the Church. I love that one lesson they got. It's like in Harry Potter where he needs to defend his mind from Voldemort and therefore Dumbledore had Snape teach him Occlumency/Legilimency. The difference is that the defender wouldn't know what memory did the attacker see. We all know that if Legilimens was used against you, you'll see the memory the attacker saw. I liked that part in Crystal Fire too. Especially for Lucas and Gabe's training.

I also liked the new characters the author, Jordan Dane, introduced to us. Like the first book, in Crystal Fire, Gabe and the others crossed paths with Oliver Blue. And that the ending for Caila was liked that. I do think she deserved it too and it was the right thing to do.

I spilled a bit of tears too. When it was time for Rafe's POV and he met someone. You'll know what I was talking about if you read the book too. It's just heartbreaking. And the ending? I honestly thought that it this will be a two book series. But I guess the root of the cause is not yet eradicated. So yes, it is not yet over. But I liked the ending. More are coming.
