Book Blurb from Goodreads: Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus' master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.
Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus' stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.
WARNING: EXTREME COMPARISON TO THE MOVIE. Don't say I didn't warn you.
So. Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Anyone have watched the movie back when it appeared on the big screen? What did you think about the movie? Good? Great? Amazing? Like Harry Potter? OR you thought that it sucks? not that good? So-so? What?
If I'll answer my questions, I'll say it to you very honestly and straight-forward. I DIDN'T LIKE THE MOVIE AT ALL. Sure, the guy who portrayed Percy is HOT (for me, IMO). BUT THAT'S JUST IT. Have I read the book before watching it? The answer is a big, fat NO.
I was actually against it. I mean, I don't want to read the book for the fear of disappointment. But I have heard that it's good. My brother keeps saying that it is good. SO what gives? The book was recommended by JP to me so since he's like promoting it to me (Okay, that's kind of wrong, I asked about it), I give in.
First of all, Percy Jackson in the book was a twelve year old kid so imagine my shock when I learned that one. Why? Percy Movie was like a 16 year old kid! THAT'S WHY! So the movie got it wrong from the start.
Sure, it will make the plot more interesting if you change something but why change the age thing? Harry Potter starts at 11 year old. So why can't they do it like that? Because it will be compared to HP? BUT you're forgetting something, THEY ARE ALIKE. THEY ARE BOTH FOR KIDS SO THE MC ARE KIDS.
There are so many differences from the book and the movie that I wish I could enumerate it one by one. But you might be annoyed at me right now and will start asking yourself, "why the heck am I reading this crappy review?" LOL. But I don't care. I'm entitled for my own opinion. AND SO ARE YOU.
One thing I could say though... I like Hades in the book. I don't know but I think he's cool. LOL! And for the record, ARES was not in the movie, was he? AND in the BOOK, Persephone WAS NOT THERE. It's summer or something (forgot what season it is) so she's away from the Underworld.
I certainly love the books rather than the movie. Okay, except Harry Potter. I love the books AND the movies of HP. ;)
I recommend it to all young at hearts. Who enjoyed Harry Potter and other kids stories. Okay. Young Adult. JUST READ IT! AND ENJOY! :)
