Sooooooo.... I really liked the story and the world building of this book. BUT, I was TOLDthat she's a huntress. She hunt the Gwyrach cause of her mother's death. This is an issue I had all throughout the book. I was under the impression she had great knives skills, great combat skills too as you know, she trained to be a hunter of demons. So I was a bit disappointed that there was NONE of it in the book. I mean, okay, so you threw a knife at some tree, that's it though. So yes, I'm the type of reader who loves her action scenes and dammit I didn't get much.
Mia is not a damsel-in-distress though. That's what I think. She knew her way around. She is really a smart woman and for once, Barton SHOWED that Mia IS smart. The world is intricately woven, if I daresay. My other problem is that there's too much descriptions. I mean, I'm all for descriptions but I don't need THAT much. LOL. So I skipped some and just read the conversations because those are really great.
Quin. I liked that he's really something else. And that he's you know (view spoiler) .
The above reasons are why I didn't gave it five stars. I just kept expecting that there will be a LOT of actions but I do liked that even though there are not much action, the world building is great. I loved the concept, the dialogues, the history of magic and all that.
I was sad that it ended up cliffy though. LOL. Because I really want to know what happened next. But this is an arc. A soon-to-be published book. I might have to wait for a year or something for the next. :(
Definitely worth my time to read. I just wished that on the next book, there'll be more action scene. Show those 'hunter' skills you have told us reader. Because this is why we love Fantasy books. THEY TELL YOU THINGS AND THEN SHOW YOU. Less description on unnecessary things and more about the characters.
